Pancreatitis?

We had a very interesting weekend in the Kaze Household. After spending Thursday night and most of Friday day with back pain and stomach pain, that pain turned to a severe stabbing pain in the left side of my abdomen accompanied by vomiting. Not able to ignore it anymore, Jayson took me to the ER Friday night and I didn't come home until Tuesday afternoon. Here's the very boring run down of the last 5 days.

4:30 Friday (right in the middle of
Ellen mind you)--developed a severe stabbing pain in the left side of my abdomen ad began vomiting.

6:00 Friday--Emily arrived with her 2 boys to watch Bailey and Jayson whisked me away to the ER.

9:00 Friday--Initial diagnosis (based on my symptoms) was something to do with my kidneys. Jayson goes home to Bailey because I'm not going home.

12:00 am Saturday--get a CT Scan of my abdomen to rule out gallstones.

2:00 am Saturday--finally admitted to the hospital and hooked up with an IV and pain meds. Hallelujah!

4:00 am Saturday--officially diagnosed with Acute Pancreatitis. My levels were very high. The enzymes given off by the pancreas are to be in the 20's and 120's respectively. Mine were in the 4,000's and 12,000's, respectively. I was immediately put on a NO food, NO liquid diet, which lasted over 48 hours!

Saturday--constant pain, constant requests for pain meds, and lots of sleeping. And hungry.

Sunday--less, but still constant pain, still constant request for pain meds, lots of sleeping. STARVING! CRACKED LIPS!
FOOD, finally (around 6:00 pm). Just liquids, but food in the tummy nonetheless.

Monday--levels, thank goodness are down. 3,000's and 1,000's, respectively. Pain diminishing. Less frequent requests for pain meds. Still lots of sleeping (more from boredom, however). Frequent visitors! More FOOD and moving up on the food chain, some solids!

Tuesday--levels are way down. 50's and 150, respectively. Pain gone, just sore and tender (due to inflamed pancreas). Still need pain meds, but not as often. Actual food. FREEDOM! Sweet FREEDOM!

I'm still sore and tender, but I can handle that as long as I'm with Jayson and Bailey (who I didn't see at all). Home Sweet Home!

I'm glad that's all over with! Doesn't sound like much fun! I hope you don't get it again. What caused it? Do they know? Hope and pray for better health for you the rest of the year. Love ya!! -Trish

Man oh man. Just this week in my anatomy class I learned a little about the pancreas - and I learned where it was. So it makes total sense why you were vomiting. I'm sorry that you had to go through all of that. NOT FUN! Take it easy! Wish I was there to help out!!!
