Our Song

Whenever I hear "Our Song" by Taylor Swift, I can't help but think of mine and Jayson's song. Jayson loves 80's hair bands, so, due to some unusual events, our song is Whitesnake's "Is this Love".

"Is this Love" became our song somewhat unusually. When Jayson and I were dating, he was often gone on some military excursion. In the middle of our short courtship (we dated for 5 weeks), Jayson was scheduled to attend CACTS (Combined Artillery Combat Training) for 2 weeks in 29 Palms. The night before he left, we were going to dinner and a movie. Shortly after he picked me up I blurted out, "I'm falling in love with you." Then what did I hear? Silence. Nothing. I felt horror at what I had just done. A minute later (although it seemed like much longer than that), he told me that he loved me too. This completely freaked the both of us out. What were we thinking? It'd only been a couple of weeks. We had to be nuts! We were so unnerved that we decided to post-pone dinner and go for a drive up in the hills. Once we got into Auburn, CA and the surrounding hills, Jayson put in his Whitesnake/Scorpion's CD. As we listened to the CD, we calmed down and grew comfortable with our declarations of love. Now, whenever we listen to the CD, it takes us back to that rather wonderful and uncomfortable moment! The memories are so wonderful for me that Jayson bought me my own copy of the CD for Christmas (I kept taking his).
